King Sol Solitaire, by Rapture Technologies & Global Star Software, $19.95
Reviewed July 2002

Whether you are a serious card player wanting to sharpen your skills without anyone looking over your shoulder, or a casual solitaire lover who likes to try your luck once in a while, here is a game that will likely cover all your needs and then some. Developed by Rapture Technologies and distributed by Global Star Software in many electronics stores, King Sol Solitaire is one of the most complete solitaire games in one package.

The selection of solitaire games in King Sol is just incredible. With total of 70 games, from Klondike to Last Chance, from Pyramid to Queensland, from Sir Tommy to Triad, you will likely find all your favorites in this game. Each game comes with a rulebook and some very in-depth stats that include pie-chart graphs, a scoreboard, game playing history, and more. The level of customization is also impressive. Not only can you customize the background, the card deck and sound style with the graphics and sound effects that come with the game, you can also download more selections from Rapture’s web site, which also added new skins for the background. The game also gives you a large number of options to customize the game play and score keeping. You can use the Vegas scoring or standard scoring, you can choose different ways to shuffle the deck, you can set unlimited undos, etc. All that insures a tailor-made game each time you play the solitaire.

Veteran card players will likely find King Sol the most valuable card game to get on a Pocket PC. Casual players won’t get intimidated by this game with the included rulebooks, and should find it useful and refreshing compare to the freebies. If you can learn a few more card games and sharpen your skills, you might just surprise a few friends in a real card game. That alone is worth of the money.

King Sol Solitaire supports ARM, MIPS and SH3 and takes up 1 MB space.

Ratings (scale of 1 to 5):

Graphics Great graphics and big selection for the skin, background and card deck both in the game and more for downloading. Animations are fun to watch.
Sound Very nice sound bits that jazz up the game play. More sound effects with different themes are available for downloading.
Fun Meter With a large selection of solitaire games, customized look, detailed stats and history, plus the animation and sound effects, solitaire games won’t get better than this.
Addictivity If you think the solitaire you play everyday is addictive, try to have 70 of them. The large number of games alone gives a very high replay value to King Sol, and the freedom of playing several addictive games in one package is a big bonus.
